It’s been about three weeks since we and our ship left Southampton Harbour, on the coast of England, bound for North America. And I left the butterflies in my stomach in England as well. I had those butterflies in my stomach because I was nervous about being the black sheep on the ship. After all I am the only danish person out of 40 trainees. All my crewmates are British, and I’m not bad about it, they are all very nice people and I enjoy being around them. Even though I from time to time miss the privacy of my own home.
We sighted the coast of North America today, an amazing sight when the sun is bright over the water. The Statue of liberty is way bigger in real life than I expected it to be. I knew I was going to see it on this trip, so I read about it before hand, apparently it was a gift from France, it’s supposed to symbolize freedom. But does it really symbolize freedom, given the natures of freedom in America, just a thought, nothing else.
The Manhattan skyline is beautiful, particularly at night when the stars reflect in the dark blue water.
