For today’s presentation I’ve chosen to talk a bit about the man, the myth, the legend Malcolm X, the very distinguished and important civil rights activist of the 60s.
Why I've chosen this subject?
The reason behind my chosen subject, Focus on Black America and Malcolm X, is for one I have a pretty deep interest in African American culture and history. Whether that be music, all kinds of civil rights movements, which I'm going to talk a bit about in a sec, the Harlem Renaissance, slavery etc. You know, you name it.
But, also, when we worked with this topic in class, there was a very interesting and important person, we kind of skipped over. A person who has helped shape the way America and its people came to be today, namely Malcolm X. So, therefore I thought it would be interesting to examine a little further who this very essential individual was and his impact on not only African Americans, but also America as a whole.
Who was Malcolm X?
Now, Malcolm X was born Malcolm Little in 1925 in Omaha, Nebraska. His father was a Baptist preacher and follower of Marcus Garvey, a Jamaican political activist. The family moved to Lansing, Michigan after the Ku Klux Klan made threats against them, though the family continued to face threats in their new home.
