Last summer we rented a house in Wales. We had seen an advertisement in a Danish newspaper, and after having discussed the family plans we wrote a letter to the address of the owner. The owner replied that the house was vacant in July and after having studied the enclosed photographs, we decided to rent it for 14 days. We booked tickets for the boat from Esbjerg to Harwich and the 30th of July we left home full of expectations.
The weather was fine and the sea calm, so we enjoyed the journey and arrived safely at Harwich around noon. On the way through England we passed several famous places. We drank tea in Cambridge, one of the two old university towns and admired the beautiful, old buildings. As we approached Stratford-on-Avon where Shakespeare was born, we began to look for a suitable place to stay for the night. We stopped at an ordinary house with a sign outside. B. & B. was written on it. We were warmly welcomed and got two double rooms in which we slept well.
After a huge breakfast consisting of bacon and eggs, toast, jam and tea we continued the journey. Later that day we approached the Welsh boundary. The landscape changed and there were high hills ahead. In Wales most road signs are written in two languages, Welsh and English. This is because many Welsh people want Wales to be independent of England. Thankfully, most Welsh people speak English.
