Climate Change is the defining issue of our time, and we are at a defining moment. Every year and day we are getting closer to the end of our world because of global warming. “Future Vision” written by Ingrid Coram, is a short story about climate change and how the world will be in the future. The central theme is the environment and climate change, the writer shows the theme through Kate’s rare ability to view the future.

The story is told by a third person narrator because the narrator exists outside the events of the story and relates the actions of the characters by referring to their names or by the third-person pronouns like he, she, or they. “Professor Donalds stepped slowly towards the TV and turned it on” (l.5). The whole story takes place at a university in Australia. “Now I’d like you to envision the address 105 Point Road, Holden Beach, Australia five minutes into the future” (ll.25). A word professor is a person who teaches at a university it’s an honorific used by students when addressing anybody who teaches in a university classroom, that’s how we know the action is at a university.

The main character and the persons this text is built around is are Kate, Professor Donalds, and Professor Adams. The main character Kate was is a young woman with a beautiful complexion and curly blonde hair. She was is twenty-three years old and had has never spoken. She was is also very different from everyone else in the world. Kate was born with a rare ability that allowed her to see at her will, wherever she was in the future. This ability brought her to the testing room where she was currently sitting. While Professor Donalds was trying to prove his point to Professor Adams by using Kate’s rarer ability to view the future, he took his chance and kept pushing Kate to see the future in the long term even when she was not sure that she could manage it, since it was a long time away. Professor Adams then pointed out how much pressure she was placed on her by saying “You’re placing a lot of pressure on her,’ Professor Adams scolded, standing up, ‘it can’t be easy, viewing the future” (ll.50). But Professor Donalds didn’t care and contended, he is clearly a person who would not give up easily on a thing he believes in and all he cared about is to prove his point.
