Nearly 60 million children around the world works so hard, that many of them gets handicapped because of the work. Children aren't as physical developed as the adults are, which makes it a lot harder for their bodies to manage the hard work. Investigations shows that in some countries it's nearly 3 out of 4 children-workers that has got physical damages. The girls are most exposed. Security and healthy working conditions are unknown to many children workers working with poisons and dangerous machines at factories. Children, working with industry and in mines, are very exposed for reduced sight or hearing and braindamage. A lot of children aren't getting the right food, clean water or fresh air. These things can cause reduced immunedefence. I don't think children working would be a serious problem if children rights, as mentioned by the UN were keept. In Denmark we don't have that many problems concerning children working. But I've seen in TV some documentaries about children, doing hard work in Asia and Africa. My opinion is that if they really injure themselves with working, someone ought to do something about it. As mentioned in the article children at work should only be allowed if it brought among other things benefit, independence and self-worthyness. I have looked up the Unicef website concerning childrens work. I know it's a global problem, but my guess is that most of the children are forced to work because of three things: 1. poorness, 2. culture, and 3. lack of schools. 1. Many poor families are desperate for money. The parents are often unemployed. The employers prefer the children down to 5 years of age because they are easier to take advantage of.The children knows it's important to earn money, so the family can survive. That's why they don't complain even if they get treated very bad. I would prefer that no child had to work in this way. But if they are poor it's good that they can earn money somehow. It can be good in some ways, like: making young people learn about responsibility, learning
