I have interviewed the winner of “Young People of the Year 2014”, Joel Davis from Islington, London, Great Britain.
The young man who was 19 at the time, won the award because of his tutoring service called “Homework Help”.
The service helps more than 170 children and use university students as teachers.
The young man is now 23, and he has set up a website for his tutoring service.
His background is very special and different from so many others.
When he was a kid, his family was very poor and his mother was very sick.
At school he had many difficulties with reading, and is now later been diagnosed with dyslexia. But at the time, his teachers struggled to help him, and ended up just giving up on him.
He really wanted a tutor, but his family couldn't afford one for him.
But one day, his older brother brought one of his university friends called Dave Williams over for dinner, they talked about how school was going for Joel Davis, and he told his brothers friend about how he struggled with reading.
Dave was very kind and offered to tutor Joel a few times a week, for free.
