Martin Luther king was a well-known man, especially in the civil rights movement. He was born in Georgia 1929; in the south where segregation was very common. Before college he worked in the north where he found out how peacefully the races where mixes. He wrote to his parents how surprised he was at the fact his race could eat out, and that white and black went to the same church.

King believed it was important to fight for civil rights, but without the use of violence. It sadly didn’t always end up as nonviolent because of the police and other civilians etc. in 1960 to 1665 he would lead and participate in nonviolent protest, marches and sit ins. His influence grew as he was handsome, well spoken and determined, so he caught the news of the media quite fast. In 1964 the civil rights movement became very influential, and king was later that year awarded a Nobel prize in Oslo.

One of Kings most famous speeches “I have a dream” delivered in 1963 at the Lincon memorial, Washington D.C.

In the speech he spoke about how 100 years ago slaves were declared free and were promised “unalienable right” but 100 years later they still weren’t equal, there were still segregation and discrimination. That they still live in poverty and prosperity, that in America, he found himself and exile in his own land. The entire speech is basically about how he had a dream living in America and that because of the segregations and discriminations they weren’t possible.
