The Juggler is a British short story that was published in 1993.
The short story deals in general, with the theme of having dreams.
The year is 1989, to be more precise, the 8th March 1989 - only a few days after the woman’s thirtieth birthday. However, in this case the woman who is happily married, have a well paid job at a hospital as an assistant administrator, two cars, a nice house and two children, becomes too overwhelmed and “eaten” up by her dream, of being af juggler, that she do not realize what is going on around her, before it is too late.
As described the woman has a family and a job, but one day she decides to do something with her life; she have been living a – to be honest – boring life. In the beginning of the text it says:
“Since puberty my life had been chugging along at a steady twenty miles an hour like a vintage car. There had been no drama, no excitement, no real excuses for changing course”
The quote gives an impression of what kind of life she has had as a teenager. To me, it gives an impression of a small town girl, who has not really experienced “the real life”. The way it is described, it sounds like she is hungering for some drama or just doing something else in life.
