The short story “Juggler” is a story, which leaves the reader in deep thoughts on how jealousy, joy, intolerance, and lack of understanding all coexist in our strange universe. Why are some people prejudiced against other people because they are different? In the story Ursula Hegi writes about a sensitive subject that some of us can relate to: to deal with the change from being ignorant to becoming knowledgeable. The story takes place in a memorable, specific place: a middle-aged woman’s world, a common environment that is burdened with difficulties for the main character who has to deal with a lot of dilemmas concerning her life. Adulthood is about making mistakes and learning form them, and it is about running the whole scale of emotions, from unhappiness to happiness.

The short story takes place in a small place called Coeur d’Alene situated in America. The main character of the story is the unnamed female narrator. The story unfolds through the narrator’s point of view. By providing plenty of clues to the personality of the narrator the reader can detect things about the narrator that remain hidden even to herself.
