Many tourists travel to South Africa just to see its wildlife. South Africa has a great number of wildlife parks with many different kinds of animals.

Tallest: Male giraffes can grow as tall as 5, 5 m.
Smallest: The pygmy shrew is only 3, 8 cm long.
Biggest: Elephants can be up to 3, 5 metres tall and weigh up to 7 tonnes.
Fastest: The cheetah can run as fast as 105 km per hour.
Kruger National Park
President Paul Kruger opened Kruger National Park in 1898 to protect South Africa’s wildlife. It is the biggest national wildlife park in South Africa, and one of the biggest and most famous national wildlife parks in the world.
The park is placed here in Mpumalanga and in Limpopo nearest big city is Nelspruit. It is the green area here, so as you can see the park is very big.
The area is 18.989 square km, and there is about 1, 5 million visitors every year.
Kruger National Park is one of the few parks in South Africa where it’s possible to see the “Big Five”: lion, elephant, buffalo, black rhino and leopard.
Buffalo: The buffalo are extremely large, so to support the large body the legs are very heavy. Both the male and female buffalo carry horns. Buffalos are gregarious they live in herds on about 2.000 animals. Buffalos live often near water, because they love rolling in the mud.
