1: How do you think the movie represents Amish society? Is it fair or exaggerated? Does it romanticize the Amish?
The movie represents Amish society because it’s so realistic, they don’t use any electronics or technology, and they have “die ordnung” within the movie. I think it romanticize the Amish people very well. I don’t know that much about Amish society, but all I have seen seems so right and fair.
2: The boy Samuel is an eyewitness to a gruesome murder. How does he react? Do you think the movie is realistic in its portrayal of his reaction?
I think Samuel reacts very grown up. Of course he is choked and scared, but he is not freaking out, he is courageous, he is hiding fore the man who killed another man. I think it’s very realistic, I wouldn’t react like that, but I think maybe some people would.
3: Describe John Book, what kind of man is he? Why do you think he goes to such lengths to protect Samuel and Rachel?
John Book is a very kind and gorgeous man, he is a policeman, and have a job, but on same time he is protecting Samuel and Rachel. I think he is protecting them because maybe he feels a little guilty, and think it’s his fault that Samuel saw the murder, because it’s his job to get the murderer.
