Gangs are groups of people, who commit violence and vandalism and fight against other gangs. Different gangs fight of different reasons. Fighting between gangs consisting of males only, which is the most common kind of gang, is often a matter of territories.
When new people, for example immigrants, come to town, they break into other peoples territories. Some of the natives don’t wont immigrants. They think immigrants are “stealing” their houses, then their jobs and after that, they are also stealing their girls! In the other way, there is also a part of the immigrant who is strongly against the natives. They are also preventing their daughters and sons from getting near the natives, which developer to a kind of mutual racism, where especially the native boys and the immigrant boys fight against each other.
Hooligans and casuals are also gangs. Hooligans and casuals are fanatic soccer fans, who commit violence in connection with large soccer matches. They fight against fans of other soccer teams, but contrary to other gangs hooligans and casuals have rules, which imply that one only fight with other fans and do not use weapons.
Gangs consisting of females only are kind of a new phenomenon in Denmark. This kind of gang stands out from the others, because they usually don’t fight other gangs, instead they just beat up “civil” girls, who are not members of any gangs. The members of the gang are often girls who have been let down by their moms or dads and needs to feel some kind of fellowship and solidarity, which they get by beating others up together. Making others feel worse, makes them feel better.
