The film was made in 1999. It is based on the book Angela´s ashes by Frank McCourt.

The film is about Frankie McCourt and his family. They are very poor and don’t have good living conditions. They move back from America to the southern Ireland and hoping that they can get a life there. The children are being raised by Catholics and no one helps them because they know that McCourt is a northern and protestant name. Frankie has a harsh childhood where his father can’t get a job and when he does he drinks the money up. Three of Frankie’s brothers and sisters die. In Limerick where they live in a small apartment Frankie gets some friends and goes to school, and he loves going to the lyric on Saturdays. When he got older he start working because his father goes to England and work but he doesn’t sent any money. Frankie moves away from his family and lives with some relatives. He starts working as a delivery boy and falls in love with a girl who dies of tuberculoses. He goes to the church to confess to Saint Frances and the priest, he tell his whole life story. And the end he has saved money so he can finally go to the United States.
