Angela’s Ashes is a story about poverty. The main character of the film is a boy called Frank McCourt. In the start of the film Frank and his family are Irish but lives in the USA. Frank’s father has never been accepted by the mother’s family because he is from North Ireland. The mother is called Angela. When the family lives in the USA they have many problems related to poverty. The father nearly never comes home and drinks up all the money. Because of the tough financial times and because of the father’s drinking problem, he also has problems with keeping his job. Angela gives birth to a daughter, but the baby dies suddenly in the cradle.
The family decides to move back to Ireland, were the father believes that it will be easier to get a job. Angela’s family still don’t like the father because he is North Irish but decides to help the family when they family gets into big problems. Unfortunately the father doesn’t stop his bad habits about drinking and the family lose more kids because of moist in the house, cold and no food. The father moves to London to get a job. He says he will send money back to the family but there never comes a letter. The oldest child Frank decides to move away from his family gets a job and earns/steals enough money to a ticket to the USA. The teacher he had in school said many times that if he wanted a better future, he has to move out of the poor country and go to the USA.
