Analyse af Angela Carters 'The Bloody Chamber'

The man always rescues the poor lady in basic fairytales, not the other way around. Just one of many examples in gender issues. Why is it not the woman saving the day in those old fairytales? Well the British novelist Angela Carter, she has tried to interpret an old Folk tale in the The Bloody Chamber into a little different version. Her stories often gives a new perspective on the traditional gender roles. But why did she try to interpret and already written folktale into a somewhat newer version?

The language in The Bloody Chamber is quite difficult, a lot of formel words, you would have to have a very wide vocabulary to understand everything that is written. But a great thing about the text is that, there has been used a lot of adjectives, wich gives a really good sight in how the protagonist describes everything, how she sees places, because of how detailed the atmosphere is described. When you read the text there is created images in your head, you can almost see everything happening before you as you read it.

The Bloody Chamber is about a young woman whos getting married to the dominant character Marquise, a seemingly tortured male protagonist and a damsel in distress. The Bloody Chamber is Gothic, and it takes place in a luxurious but sinister and isolated Castle, with ghostly and ominous servants, and with a lot of darkness.
