The book is about a brother and sister who wanted to have a child, so they decided to adopt one. They called an orphanage, and asked for a boy, so he could help Mathew (the brother) in the field. When the day came were the child should arrive, with the train, they got very surprised. In the train, there just sat a little girl, Mathew couldn’t understand, but he couldn’t let the little girl Anne sit there, so he toke her home, to Marilla ( the sister). Marilla got very surprised. The little girl would like to stay, so they talked about it and they said to Anne she could stay until they had found out of something more.

Marilla and Mathew talked it through and Mathew said that he would like to keep Anne but Marilla did not agree so she drove Anne back to the orphanage. Anne wouldn’t back because she liked green gables. When they sat in the hestevogn she told Marilla about her life and about how her mother and father died when she was a little child. When they died she should live with Mrs. Thomas, who had four children. When Anne became eight years old Mrs. Thomas husband died and the four Children, all younger than Anne, should live with Mrs. Thomas mother. But also her husband died and then she couldn’t manage to have Anne anymore, so she came on orphanage.
