Many people have a goal, but even fewer have the perseverance to achieve them. It takes someone who wants that goal more than anything in the world. In ‘The Smallest Dragonboy’ by Anne McCaffery, Keevan has a dream, and that dream is the same as every other young boy on the planet. They all dream to be a dragonrider. Being a dragon rider is a real honour and everyone would like to be honoured by having that job. There are many themes in the story, but one that truly stands out is determination and persistence. You can accomplish anything if you have the will and are brave enough.
Keevan is a young boy who dreams of becoming a dragon rider, but although he is the son of the great dragon rider K`last - a man which Keevan looks up to but does not really feel connected to; as he is not truly seem as worthy because of his size and strength. He is generally weaker and smaller than other boys of his age, but he becomes braver than them all. Through his life, he was bullied by boys of his age, they called him nicknames such as “babe”. The bullying and him feeling different from the others have created a disbelief in himself. He constantly questions himself although he is brave enough to try and impress a dragon.
