Neil Armstrong Neil Alden Armstrong born 5th August 1930 was the American astronaut who became the first man who sat his foot on the moon, which was done on 21th July 1969, with the rocket Apollo 11. Neil Armstrong was born in Wapakoneta in Ohio, and served in the Korean War as a fighter pilot. Neil Armstrong studied on the University of Purdue, located in West Lafayette, Indiana. He was then civilian test pilot for NASA and flew the rocket plane X-15. Neil Armstrong was selected for astronaut in 1962. He was born at his grandparents’ farm in Auglaize County
