Neil Alden Armstrong Neil Alden Armstrong was born in 5. August 1930 in Wapakoneta. He was an American astronaut, and he was the first man to set foot on the moon the 21. July 1969, with his Apollo 11. Neil Armstrong went to the University of Pudre in West Lafayette. The pair of them touched down in a special landing craft known as the Eagle, while a third astronaut, Michael Collins, remained in the main spacecraft, Apollo 11, orbiting the moon. Back on earth an estimated 1,000 million TV viewers watched the event which ended a decade of tremendous advances
