When he had grown up as a young man, he went to West Lafayette, India, to study on the University of Purdue. After he had graduated from university and had his certificate, he decided to become a pilot. He flew for many years and he also served in the Korean War. In 1962, after some years as a test pilot, he was chosen to be an astronaut. But the big journey first began seven years later, in 1969. The spacecraft was Apollo 11.
The 20th of July 1969 millions of people were watching on television how Neil Armstrong took the first step on the moon. And afterwards hearing his famous words: “That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind” which made a big impression to everybody who heard it.
