Welcome to the conference: ”High school safety”.I am happy to see that so many decided to be here today. My name is [NAVN A] and I represent the organization PAX. I am here today to tell you about a huge problem in our society, namely the spread of weapons and the situations these causes. PAX’s mission is to bring an end to the gun violence epidemic in America. On the average this epidemic kills nine children every day. This is way too much and that is why our mission is so important.

I will start out by showing you some horrible statistics

Gun violence in America killed over 3,400 children and injured 18,000 more in 2001.

100,000 students are able to obtain and take a gun to school every single day in our country.

The United States has the largest number of guns in private hands of any country in the world with 60 million people owning a combined arsenal of over 200 million firearms.

This has lead to several sad stories. In the following I will come up with some examples. In 1999 at Columbine High School in Colorado two students shot dead 13 fellow students and afterwards each other.

After this shooting polls showed that two-thirds of Americans supported greater gun control measures. There was also the case of the Washington Sniper, who terrorized the suburbs of the nation's capital in late 2002 in a month-long shooting spree, killing 10 people and seriously wounding three, swiftly brought the issue of gun control onto the table once again.
