Analysis of President Obama Speech in Hyde Park, Chicago February 2015

Introduction:

I’m going to talk about and analyse the speech that President Obama held in Hyde Park Chicago 2015.

Summary:

In President Obamas speech he talk extensively about providing a future for our

children and all of us.

I’m going to bring up his main topics. One area that Obama highlights is the danger that children live under today.

Gun related shootings being one of them. President Obama brings up the area of gun control and that we must prevent criminals from getting access to guns so easy. He also mention that this subject is very sensitive but, it’s something that must be discussed.

Obama emphasizes that this is not an issue about gun control.

He says that we have to invest in where it counts, give kids a chance, and a future.

We have to address the root causes and make a change.

And one extremely important thing is strong families.

“Now, that starts at home. There’s no more important ingredient for success, nothing that would be more important for us reducing violence than strong, stable families” – Obama.

Analysis:

If we analyse the speech with focus on use of language and forms of appeal, Obama use most of them. Obama use both high and low style, its low when he speak to ordinary people, but also high style. Sometimes he use low style fx. Fillers, contractions like “it’s, we’re, I’ve, they’re” and so on. He speaks in a way that is high style but still understandable. He use pathos appealing to emotions and feelings, and ethos when he speaks to the audience and sounds so convincing.
