The short story gives us an insight into how terrible apartheid period has been. It is very difficult to describe something so horrifying that has taken place in reality and many people have been victims for it in many years and actually still suffering from it. The story tells us about the environment and the treatment of blacks they had to put up with. The fear they live with every day, where the only bright spot in their empty life could be a woman who breastfed her child, or the sound of a child's laughter. That is just not fair that some people is locked into sadness and poverty suffering from white peoples cruelty and unjust treatment.
But if we look at the time today, we can see that the problem is still current. I have just seen I television that kids actually prefer white kids.
There were 5 identical kids, with the only difference; skin colour.
Scientist asked the 5-7 years old kids both black and white:” who is the naughty child on this picture?” and almost everyone pointed at the black child. Then the scientist asked:” Who is the clever kid and who do you want to play with?”, and they answered, that the white child was the clever kid and the one they choose to play with.
