“In the name of the Father”, which is based on a true story, takes place in the 1970’s. During this period, many conflicts and political issues were discussed, and the war between the IRA and the British army had become a plague. In many cases, riots and demonstrations resulted in innocent imprisonment. “In the name of the Father” is about the war, the man Gerry Conlon and some of his friends and family, who got imprisoned in spite of their innocence.
Gerry Conlon lived in Belfast together with his family. Gerry got in trouble with the IRA, due to some thefts. He decided to leave Belfast and go to London to work. On the ship to London, Gerry met his old friend Paul Hill. Gerry decided to follow Paul, instead of settling down at his aunt Annie Maguire. Gerry and Paul had a friend called Paddy Armstrong, who lived in London, and owned an almost ruined apartment. In his apartment there lived some other people too. Gerry and Paul stayed there, but left again after a while.Gerry and Paul had to find a shelter for the night and chose the park as the best solution. In the park, they met an old, homeless man called Charlie Burke. Charlie told them, that he was from Belfast too, but went to London when he was their age.
