The story is about a man named Fintan, who soon will be turning fifty. One day, he and a woman named Sylvia are on their way to the planetarium, when Sylvia starts driving a different way, then she was supposed to. When Fintan asks her where they are going, she only replies, that he has got something more important to do. Fintan realizes that they are at his mother’s house, and gets mad. Sylvia tells him, that his mother called her, and had asked her to urge him to come pick up his stuff.
On the attic he found some of his old stuff, including a red dinky truck, he had gotten for his sixth birthday. The truck gives him flashbacks from when he was young. One day, when he finds out that his truck has disappeared, he blames his brother for hiding it, and that is the only thing he wants to believe, until it suddenly shows up again, on the cornfield nearby. He realizes that he could not tell his family about this, and hides the truck away in his wardrobe.
Not even when he finds it after all these years he wants to admit to his family what really happened, and therefore he decides to tell them, that he found the truck in a box that belonged to his brother.
