The film is about a little boy that is being teased by the big bullies from the school. They teas him because of his pants and they say stupid things about his dead father. He finds some new friends that he hangs out with, but quickly one of their old friends comes back from prison. Shaun and Combo make a new group with some others, called BNP. The group see themselves as nationalist and not racists. They are against all people, that are not from England and they show it very clearly both verbal and physical.
The film takes place in England in the year 1983. Margarat Thatcher was elected as prime minister in 1979 under the slogan “Labour Is not working”, and she tried to turn England’s very bad economic situation for the better. The country was plagued by massive unemployment, and they were in a war against Argentina in the Falkland Islands, which the country won in 1982. Few people had expected that she would win a war on the other side of the Earth. The working class were tired of their poor conditions and their bitterness towards the system increased. But they knew that the system could not change, so they tried to find some enemies, who could be their scapegoat. Their scapegoat became the immigrants.
