Denmark is amongst the smallest countries in the continent of Europe, both population-wise and areal-wise. The thing most of us think of when we hear the word Denmark is a warm and cozy place to live, where people are happy with things the way they are, and that the people who live in Denmark are all open minded and unprejudiced. Unfortunately that's more fiction than fact, and the modern Danish people are just the same as the rest of Europe's inhabitants. None the less, Denmark has been granted the title of “Happiest country in the world” several times in the latest years. And that's the way we therefore are perceived most of the time by others.
Contributing to this fictitious fairytale perception of Denmark is the fact that, when most of the world think of Denmark they think of Hans Christian Andersen, a late Danish writer. His stories are known all over the world, and several of his tales have even been dramatized by the Walt Disney Pictures.
Customs:
I wouldn't say that there is a lot of Danish customs and general habits, compared to the United States of America. And by that I mean that first of all, we aren't nearly as religious in Denmark as they are over there. We don't say grace, and here it's considered normal to ask people if they are religious and faithful, but in America, it's close to being frowned upon, not being religious. You don't necessarily have to be a christian, any religion is respected (though Islam hasn't exactly risen in popularity these latest few years), but not being religious at all is not something the ordinary American citizen can relate to.
