Pain, tears, anger, shock, even remorse, are only some of the feelings the American nation went through on September 11, 2001, and still are going through to this day. A terrorist attack that will never be forgotten. The speech, former president George W. Bush held, caused all those emotions to come back again, but it also showed leadership and brings the nation comfort. 9/11 should forever be honoured for those who lost their lives and to the families that are still struggling with pain. To reassure the American people that the United States will always strive to move forward.

To analyse his speech, we have used the rethorical pentagram and devices to better understand the speech and get more in depth. Furthermore, we have used the three modes of persuasion in order to better understand his ways of reaching the audience. Lastly, we will sum up with a conclusion. Since it’s the ceremony of 9/11, it’s an epideictic speech. Bush is not trying to convince the audience of anything, but to praise while expressing common values and thereby creating engagement and cohesion. To bond the nation again.

The speaker is as mentioned, former president George W. Bush, who was the president during 9/11. The speech was held at the September 11 memorial in Shanesville, Pennsylvania, and was held to mark the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
