New Kids in the NeighborhoodThis picture shows the new black children/family in their new neighborhood. The picture depicts two groups of youngsters - one black, one white; a total of five children. There are two children who are black in the skin with a white cat and there are three children who are lighter in skin with a black dog. They look at each other with wary curiosity in front of a moving van. I think it is their first encounter after the arrival of the black children. Maybe one wonders whether the baseball gloves the kids carry will ever be used in play together. Each "team" stands looking at each other. The American white children are browsing intrigued at them. They look almost as if they are not having the right to be there. None of the kids look poor. Skin tones are a mixture of infinitely many things. The cat is white and the dog is black in the picture - there are often variations in color. We just think too much of human skin color.I think the theme could be the meeting between black and white people. This is the same theme as “The New Girl”. You can easy compare the history. You see a new black family moving into the white neighborhood. Would they begin playing with each other?
