The film: Across the Universe is a fictional love story. It takes place in the 1960s. It was the years of anti-war protest, and the struggle for free speech and civil rights. It was also known as the years of rock and roll. The film is a musical with only songs from The Beatles. Let it be, I want to hold your hand, Hey Jude, Strawberry Field and a lot of others song are included. It is a film about love and war, protest and violence, music and freedom.
The cast is led by four characters. Jude (Jim Sturgess) who comes to America in search of finding his dad, his best friend, Max (Joe Anderson), who has decided to drop out of college. They go to New York City together and find an apartment which is home to a singer, Sadie (Dana Fuchs). She is the lead singer in a band.
Jude and Max eventually are joined in New York by Max's sister, Lucy (Evan Rachel Wood). Her boyfriend was killed in Vietnam, and she is eager to get involved in the antiwar movement.
Jude and Lucy fall in love, but many things get in their way. Their different opinions about the revolution, and the distance between them (Lucy is in America and Jude is in England). But their love and their bond with Max, keeps them together.
