Summary:The opening scene takes place in the local supermarket where Margaret Thatcher is buying a carton of milk. She is confused at the cash desk because last time she went out shopping, milk was a lot cheaper. At home she is having dinner with her husband (Denis) which has been dead for eight years. Margaret Thatcher imagines that nothing has ever happened, and everything is just what it seems. Denis is haunting her every day and night, and they are having long conversations about moral and ethic. Her daughter, Carol, is visiting her very often and she helps her dear mother to get through the day. Every time Carol visits she is trying to convince her mother to get rid of Denis’ old clothes. The clothes keep reminding her of the good times that she spent with her husband. During the movie there are a lot of flashbacks, the first one deal with her life as a shop assistant at her dad’s grocery. She felt anti-social because her class mates went to the cinema, but she wasn’t allowed because she had to work. The second flashback takes place in Dartford, where Margaret is introduced to politics and Denis, who later on becomes her husband. They are having dinner, and they talk politics for a while, but Margaret is a woman; and women are a minority in the British politics at the given time, so the dinner partners giggles at her behind her back. The politicians are Conservatives, and Margaret is sharing her thoughts with the members of the party and gets taken apart. We suddenly rush forward to the 1970’s where she has become the party leader of the Conservatives. Two persons, Airey and Gordon, are giving her a makeover because she doesn’t satisfy the needs of a politician. Airey and Gordon suggest Margaret to run for prime minister. Margaret agrees after having a big discussion with Denis at home. Denis and her children are forced to take care of themselves while Margaret is too busy working.
