Child labour in India

There’s allot of child labour in India. India is the country in the world that has the most child workers. There are between 20 and 50 millions child workers. All of them work under very bad conditions. They work full time every day and there’s no time to relax, go to school or play, and there are only a small break for meals. Many of the children are under 14 years old. There are also allot of children who cannot go home, so they sleep at their work place, which is very bad for their health and development. Many of the girls work as maids in rich people’s houses, other work as prostitutes. They also work in tea stalls, restaurants or beg in the streets. It’s often very hard physical and mental work.

One of the reasons, there is so many child workers, is children are employed because they are cheaper to pay than adults. Sometimes parents send their children away to work, because they can’t no longer afford to feed them. Child labour is actually against the law in India. The poor families don’t have enough money so their children’s can’t go to school. The problem in India is that child labour is typically only understood as referring to factory work. For this reason, many child workers have moved, or been moved, from large factories and into domestic work. These include businesses where people work out of their own homes. Sometimes kids are kidnapped or stolen from their parents to work for other people.
