Billy is an 11 years old boy, from Everington. He lives with his father, brother and grandma, during the miner’s strike, which the father and brother are involved in. Billy is the one who takes care of the grandma. In one of the first scenes, he makes breakfast for her, but she isn’t home. Billy finds her at the cemetery, where Billy follows her home afterward. Billy goes alone to boxing in his spare time, maybe because he feels a pressure from his dad. His dad told him in a scene that, he should wear the boxing gloves with respect, because it was Billy’s grandpa once. Billy has more interest in ballet than boxing. Billy is at a boxing class and he sees the ballet class dance, while he is in the boxing ring. Billy isn’t the best at boxing. In the scene, Billy has more interest for the ballet class. A girl asks him to join them, but he says no. The dance teacher gives him some shoes, but Billy can’t resist the temptation because of that, so he joins the ballet class. Billy really gets a passion for it, so he starts in a secret, because of the risk that his father will get angry. Billy’s mother, who died a coulpe years ago, used to play piano, whit him when he was younger, but now he just plays with himself, he also has a musical tone in his body when he dances. In many scenes, you see that Billy dances everywhere, he really wants to get good at it. One evening his father caught him in the dancing hall, while he dances. The father got really angry at Billy, he thinks that ballet is for the upper class, girls and gays. He is different from all the other boys. Billy wants to dance no matter what, the father and brother says.
