The movie Billy Elliot is about a boy who against all odds becomes a ballet dancer. In our days a male ballet dancer does not sound that strange but in 1983 were Billy lived the only sports boys were aloud to do were boxing, football or wrestling. With this boy, the sport he needs to train is boxing. His father and granddad were boxers, so of course Billy needs to become a boxer to. But instead of training boxing in the gym he goes to the ballet classes next to the boxing area. Billy has a lot of potential and gets very good quick and when his ballet teacher asks him to go to a audition on the Royal Ballet Company all his adventures begins…
I believe the themes in this movie are Class-divided society, to be different and dreams…
Dreams:
I think one of the themes is dreams because Billy leaves the crowd and follow his own dream about becoming a ballet dancer. Actually he does not do ballet he does a thing between ballet and what we now know as the sport hip hop. And because of Billy’s potential I believe he was one of the persons who maked the world realize that ballet also could be performed by guys.
