I chose this topic because I think its really important for the black american history. The topic is interesting because the society back then is different from today's society. It’s crazy to look back and see how lucky we are in the modern world.
what is segregation
segregation was a system to separate people based on their color or ethical groups. segregation in america happened after the slavery. even tho slavery stopped, the black americans were still underestimate. They were still looked at as if they were animals.
racial segregation
racial segregation in the us was seen in schools, busses, restaurats and pretty much every public places. but also seen in opportunities such as buying a house or getting a job.
there were schools for black people only, and they would have to sit in another section of a restaurant. They weren’t allowed to use a white toilet or white water fountains and greeting a white person was different if you were a person of color.
Jim crow laws
Jim Crow laws were laws to secure segregation. one of them was that black people had to give up their seat in a bus if a white person asked for it. there were a lot more and if you broke some of the laws you’d get punished like if you stole from a store. It did happen to Rosa Parks on the bus because she wouldn’t give up her seat.
