Nicks father brings him to get him some life experience, and also he probably can’t be home alone without them.

Because it’s too bloody and gross, it might get him nightmares.

Exhilarated, it is told in the story, and because he saved the woman and the child’s life.

Because that Nick got to see a lot of things that aren’t meant to be seen by children.

He is trying to comfort him.

It probably made Nick stronger; since he was sure he was never going to die.

Perhaps he is impressed of his father and realizes that as long as his father is around nothing can happen to him.

Nick sat next to his father to be comforted on the way there, but on the way home he sits in the front because he is braver and stronger. That is also the time he thinks he can never die.

He realized the baby was Caucasian.

“Things” is probably life. It was too hard for him.

Uncle George is a white man coming to USA to the Indians so he gives the cigars as a symbol of them being equal.

It makes you realize that they are the only civilized people there and you can’t just find somebody with medical authorization.
