Lucy is a grade A student. Still she manages to get detention for hitting another kid behind the subway. She has a friend named Bethan, who is a trouble-maker and a very bad influence on Lucy.
Lucy never wanted to hit the kid behind the subway, but Bethan made her do it, and now Lucy feels bad about it. In fact Bethan makes Lucy do a lot of things she doesn’t want to do. Smoke cigarettes, skip classes and wear make-up for instance.
Lucy is sitting in the detention room drawing a heart. The teacher walks over to Lucy and seems surprised that “The Almighty Grade A Student” is in detention. He asks if it has anything to do with Bethan, but Lucy quickly denies. She is just looking out the window to see if Bethan is coming to pick her up after detention as promised.
The boy sitting in front of Lucy wants to tease her, but decides not to. He is probably afraid to get Bethan after him. Now Lucy spots Bethan by the gate outside the window, speaking to the guy who got Bethans older sister pregnant.
After the detention Lucy is met by Bethan outside.
