Oliver Twist: plot summary

Oliver Twist was born in a workhouse. His mother came to the workhouse where she gave birth to Oliver just before she died. Oliver was raised under the care of Mrs. Mann and the beadle Mr. Bumble in the workhouse. When Oliver was forced to ask for more food on behalf of all the starving children in the workhouse, he got trashed, and then adopted by an undertaker called Mr. Sowerberry. Another son of Mr. Sowerberry called Noah insulted Oliver’s dead mother and the small Oliver jumped on him and attacked him. However, Oliver was punished severely afterwards, and he ran away to London. Here he was picked up by Jack Dawkins or the Artful Dodger as he was called by his nearest and dearest. The Artful Dodger was a member of Fagin gang of boys. Fagin has trained the boys to become thieves. The Artful Dodger took Oliver to Fagin’s den in the London slums, and Oliver, who simply didn’t understand that he was around criminals, became one of Fagin’s boys.When Oliver was sent out with The Artful Dodger and another boy on a pickpocket run Oliver was so shocked when he realizes what was going on, that he gets caught instead of the two other boys. Luckily, the victim of the thievery, the old kind gentleman, Mr. Brownlow rescued Oliver from arrest and brings him to his house, where the housekeeper nurses him back to life after he had fallen sick, and for the first time in his life he was happy.Soon after with the help of the brutal murderer Bill Sikes and the prostitute Nancy, Fagin kidnapped Oliver. Oliver was taken on a trip to Mr. Brownlow’s house. Unfortunately the thieves are discovered in the house of Mr. Brownlow and his adopted niece, Rose, and Oliver was shot and wounded. Sikes escapes pulling Oliver with him. Afterwards Nancy who had a good heart cannot stand seeing Oliver this sad, so she tried to help Oliver to escape from Bill. Nancy then makes an agreement with rose and Mr. Brownlow about giving Oliver to them on the London Bridge at midnight. Unfortunately Bill Sikes heard it and plan to kill Oliver. Bill Sikes took Oliver as a hostage up on the roof above Fagin’s house after stealing Fagin’s box of treasures. Luckily Bill was hung in an accident. Afterwards Oliver and Fagin made a deal that Fagin got everything in the box except Oliver locket which was given to Oliver by his mother just before she died. After Oliver and Fagin makes the deal the police came and help Oliver down, by this time Fagin was long gone. Oliver was broad to Rose and Mr. Brownlow and they take Oliver home to Mr. Brownlow’s house and lived happily ever after.
