Jennifer O’Neill worked as a maid in a hotel in Belfast. Jennifer couldn’t read or write, but that wasn’t very important in her job. When the tourist season ended, Jennifer got fired. She tried to find another job, but it wasn’t easy, and she went unemployed for a long time. Once a week, Jennifer went to the dole office in Horn Street, to pick up her support. She couldn’t spell her name, so she signed for the money with an X. One morning she took the counter clerk with surprise.
