Nick and his father was summoned to a sick Indian woman. Nick and his dad comes over to the island, they were picked up by a young Indian girl, they followed her into the house with the sick lady who got a lot of dogs running towards them. They came to the girl, she had tried to have a baby for two days. Nick’s father asked for some hot water, he told Nick that the lady had to have a baby, Nick knew it. The woman she lay in bed and screaming in pain, Nick was tired of her screaming and wanted home. Nick’s father explained that babies usually born with their head first, but sometimes things go wrong. He got the baby out, it was a boy. He gave it to an elderly woman who was there. He had to sew the woman again, now Nick would just go home. The woman was pale, but the doctor said that he came back the next day. There is a man who has killed himself, Nick asks questions about it. On the trip home called his father him Nickie. They sailed home; the sun was coming up behind some hills. As they sailed was Nick agreed with himself that he should never die.
