On Tuesday, April 20, 1999, there was a school massacre at Columbine High, where 2 students and 1 teacher died. They also injured 21 students. The massacre was committed by Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, who were new students at Columbine High. The thing about Dylan, was his family had never owned a gun and the shooting was a shock for the family. In an article from Oprah Magazine in November 2009, Dylan’s mom tells about her experience and feelings on the shooting. First time she heard about the situation, she thought that Dylan was injured from the shooting. Today she still can’t believe what happened. She never found an answer why he did it and she still wonders. Today she still got the horror and feels the pain of what her son did.
Some of the after effects were, that it made many people more uncertain and fear their own neighbors. People made a safe room with thick doors and had guns hidden under furniture. Many wanted a safe room because they were afraid of criminals in town. In Canada it is the opposite. They trust and take care of each other and they often never lock their doors. That also brings some safety between people. Canada and the US have almost got the same laws about arms and the use of guns. One of the laws they have in the US, is the second amendment to the American Constitution. The law protects the right of people to keep and bear arms. One of the odd things the US does is that they offer a gun instead of interests. In the US news broadcast they always tell about shootings and murders in town and in Canada, they don’t.
