US gun culture: background, interpretations and solutions

The US gun culture is very known for their school shootings and other massacres. In the US people have the right to own a gun and defend themselves in their own homes. Therefore it is easy to get a hold in a gun and that’s maybe the reason why there are these school shootings and other massacres in the US. There are 200 million privately held guns in the United States of America. And in average 11000 Americans die each year because of gun murders. Almost the half of the males in the US have a firearm. The reasons why people in the US have firearms is because they want to protect themselves against crime and that’s the most used reason why people have firearms. Other reason could be hunting and target shooting. In the US they have “The Second Amendment” and the amendment says “A well regulated militia, consisting of members of the people, has the right to keep and carry weapons when this is necessary for the security of a free state.” The Organizations, NRA and the Brady Campaign have two very different interpretations about The Second Amendment. The NRA believes that it is an individually right to “the people” to keep and bear arms. They also fight restrictions on all type of weapons, while the Brady Campaign believes that the right belongs to “a well regulated militia” and they points out which weapons are more dangerous today than when the Second Amendment was written. The two organizations also disagree on the relevance of the amendment in a modern democracy like the United States, and the NRA says that tyranny is always present, where the Brady Campaign says that the armed revolution and violence is not necessary in a democracy. If the US made the gun law more specific, and looked on each person who wanted a permit to have guns, so sick, mental ill or just people who are inappropriate to sell arms to, couldn’t get a hold in any guns. They could also set the minimum requirements up, so less people could buy guns or get a permit to have guns. It will also decrease the school shootings if the young people couldn’t get these guns.
