Thebedi and Paulus are friends. However, Thebedi is black and Paulus is White. Paulus was going to boarding school; the first time he came back from the school, he brought Thebedi a present. And she gave him, before he went back to the school, a bracelet she had made for him.

The boarding school had a “sister “ school. Paulus was flirting and teasing the girls from that school. Paulus met a girl at a weeding. Paulus and the girl had sex in a storeroom. The weekend after, he went home again, and still brought Thebedi a present. They met at the river-bed. He told her about the school and punishments they could get. She only asked, and didn’t tell any thing, about what she had been doing.

One summer afternoon Thebedi waded into the water, Paulus felt something he never had felt, whit Thebedi, before. That day they had sex, just like Paulus had whit the girl from the wedding.

Paulus was popular at the boarding school, he dated a blond girl from the “sister” school, and took girls out dancing and too drive-in cinemas. Paulus had made Thebedi pregnant, but Paulus didn’t know. Her parents also arrange marriage for her, and she also didn’t tell him that. Paulus’ mother told him that Thebedi had had a baby, he went to her and wanted to see the baby. He saw the baby, and Thebedi wanted him to take it and give it to someone. Two days later Paulus went to Thebedi, the baby had not been well. The baby died, and Thebedi’ husband, Njabulo, buried the baby. The police came, someone had reported that is was death. Paulus was charged with murder, Thebedi said that she had seen Paulus poising the baby. Paulus was “not guilty” because the court couldn’t accept the evidence Thebedi had.
