In 1964 tree boys – two white and a black one - was killed by the local police. The FBI agents Mr. Anderson and Mr. Wart are on the case. A couple of days later, their car is found in the swamp, but the bodies are missing. While investigating, the black people didn’t want to talk to the FBI, because they fear a cruel punishment from the Ku Klux Klan, which all whites in The State of Mississippi are more or less members of.
When Mr. Anderson and Mr. Wart are talking to the local vice sheriff, Clinton Pell, who is a suspect, they see a wedding day picture where the best men are standing with 3 fingers pointing down as the symbol of the KKK. The agents need Pell’s alibi for the 50 minutes, where they think the boys were killed, but his wife is covering him.
The next day, the black people’s are being attacked, killed and raped by KKK members, but nobody feels sorry for them. ”They have got what they have deserved” is the comment from everybody in the small town Jassop County. The day after that, the FBI agents see a black boy being released from the local police demartment and a car following and kidnapping him. The agents follow the car and find the boy bruised in the forest.
