Analysis of 'Low Visibility' by Margaret Murphy

The short story is about Laura and her marriage with her husband John. The main theme in the story is violence. The story focuses on violent marriage between John and Laura. The story also focuses on the violence in the street, which the couple is watching on the news, while John is violent against Laura. These two violent scenes end up meeting each other at the end.

Laura is the main character in the short story. She was once a happy, outgoing and popular girl. She has been married to John for four years. When she married him things started to change. John is the dominant in their marriage. He has the power and violent actions which make Laura feel uncomfortable. At the beginning of their marriage John began to blame Laura for his unhappiness and then he started to get abusive. He is still violent towards her. She is insecure, because she does not know what his next move is. The unpleasant marriage with violence has changed Laura completely. Her self-confidence and independence has disappeared. He made her reserved and afraid as a person. She is now invisible. She really wants to do something about it, but she is too weak.
