Tell us about your great leader: Margaret Hilda Thatcher, born in Grantham the 13 October 1925, is a British politician and the longest-serving British prime minister of the 20th century. She earned the nickname "Iron Lady" because of her uncompromising opposition to soviet foreign policy, and implemented conservative policies. After graduating from Oxford University she worked as a research chemist. Later she studied law and eventually became a barrister. On 13th December, 1951 she married Denis Thatcher, a successful businessman with whom she had two children. Thatcher became a Conservative member of parliament for Finchley in north London in 1959, serving as its MP until 1992. Her first parliamentary post was junior minister for pensions in Harold Macmillan’s government.

Why do you think she was a great leader?: I think she was a great leader because she has helped to resolve some conflicts and wars in her time as prime minister. She met the Argentinian invasion of the Falkland Islands in 1982 by force of arms, and her effort led to British victory. On the home front was a miner strike collapse in 1985 a major breakthrough in the fight against trade unions. Her policy gave conservative electoral victories in 1983 and 1987.
