'The Iron Lady': filmanalyse af Margaret Thatchers liv

The Iron Lady is an English biographical film directed by Phyllida Lloyd in 2011.

The film follows the life of Margaret Thatcher in the 80's, and for that reason it is shot in a biographical genre. Whereas the subgenre of the film is feature.

The film revolves around the life of the main character Margaret. Here the film provides a timeline effect, from a daughter to a grocer to the first female Prime Minister of England. The opening scene takes place at her home, where Margaret and her husband Denis are having supper. Although this is a figment of her imagination as she in reality is having dinner in her own company. Dennis passed away eight years ago, yet she converses with him daily, or so she thinks. Margaret lives by herself, and is on occasion visited by her daughter Carol.

Margaret grew up as the daughter of a grocer in a middleclass household, she was blonde and had pretty fair skin. She was very hesitant, shy and at the same time independent and stubborn. She was a member of the Conservative Party. The members of the party thought she was a great candidate, however she was convinced by popular thought that she needed to marry in order to qualify for Prime Minister. We keep in mind that times were different then, and for that reason she married Dennis. When becoming Prime Minister she became a completely different person. Now she had power, confidence and was somewhat self-centred. As she matured she slowly lost the support of her own party members.
