I have chosen” A Hanging” and I am re-writing the excerpt from the prisoners point of view.
I thought of my family, friends and all the people that stood me close, while the guards dragged me towards the gallows, through the audience who in a few moments were going to see me leave this world. There were not many minutes left of my miserable life, how could mankind get to a point where they need to kill each other, I thought to myself. Is it fair to kill another human being because of a single unfortunate mistake? What is going to happen after life? Where am I going now? Is it a good or a bad place? Or maybe when you die, it all turns black and you will forever be asleep. All those thoughts were running through my mind, as I was getting closer and closer to the place, where I were going to end my days on this earth. Each step was slowly draining me from all hope. But suddenly a fearsome roar came from behind, and the two guards were knocked out by two big mercenaries, they turned against me and said “It’s not fair to kill a man when he isn’t guilty, and certainly not without a trial.” Then they took me with them through the shocked crowd, towards the exit of the city. As we were almost at the gate to exit the city, we were surrounded by the city guards, and were strongly outnumbered. But at the other side of the city walls, the rest of the mercenary milits was waiting for us to come out. But when they heard us shouting, they immediately ran towards the gate to help us out. Now it was the city guards who was outnumbered, and those that was not running away in fear, where brutally slaughtered by the merciless mercenaries. It stood clear to me, that they were really skilled warriors, and they had been trained to never lose a battle. And as superior in combat as they were, it was most likely never going to happen. After all the guards were killed, we ran outside where there were a horse to every man, and we all rode to a nearby village, where the mercenaries had their headquarter, I was offered to stay and live with them, if I was willing to work for food. But I thanked no to the offer, and said that I needed to go home and see my family, they understood my situation and gave me a horse to travel home on. I thanked them very much for everything they had done for me, and began my travel home.
