The weapon culture in America is very different from the one we have in Denmark. There are as many weapons in America as there are citizens. In Denmark it is certainly not normal to carry or even own a weapon. The weapons law is a lot stricter in Denmark, so it makes it really hard to buy a weapon. In 2003 it also became illegal in Denmark to carry a knife with a blade over 2,5 inches. Having a weapon with out permission can cost heavy fines and several of years in prison. The strong weapons law decreases the numbers of killings, but gangs’ still purchase weapons. It is impossible to totally remove weapons from the gang environment but I am certain that the law makes a different. The gang wars are also a lot more prevalent in America compared to Denmark. There are an amount of requirements you have to fulfil, to purchase a weapon in Denmark. Besides being very expensive, you have to be eighteen, and have a hunting license and a clean criminal record. You get the permission from the police, but it is almost impossible, it has to be in connection with your job for an example if you are a police officer or a guard. In the United States, carrying a weapon is so often seen, that schools and universities have installed metal detectors.
