Aline’s JourneyI ask myself how they could have taken my beautiful blue dress away from me. That blue dress was all I had left to remind me of the old times in Haiti. Yes they were horrible, but that is where all of my friends are and I miss them so much. I begin to think about my friends as I get back into bed. I think of Fifine, my best friend in the whole world and the one person who would be able to make me smile right now. I feel like I have lost all hope, yet I still feel like something good is coming. It sounds strange, but even though we are caged in this terrible beige hotel room, I can still hear the sounds of me and Fifine playing hop-scotch or Granny Valia telling me a good night story on the porch at home. I try to remember some of Granny Valia’s stories and after a little while I slowly fall asleep.

I wake up very abruptly in the morning and I can see that Manman is holding Jojo, Madame Auguste and Magalie are holding hands trying to look strong, but I can see just how weak they are. In the doorway is standing two of the hotel guards and they are telling us that my dad is safe and sound, but that he has been transferred to a place where he is to stay with all the other dads. I burst out crying. On one hand I am overly happy that he is okay and I can see that Manman is as well, but on the other hand I am so afraid that I might not see him again. Now I don’t even know where he is, other than the little and cryptic piece of information. It does give me a little hope though. For the first time in a month or so, we get a proper breakfast. We were given two bowls of oatmeal that we were all to share. I shared with Manman and Jojo and Madame Auguste and Magalie shared. It was delicious and it was so nice to finally get something else for a change.
